FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Colorado Springs, CO) – Paul Dallenbach Racing is pleased to announce qualification results for the 100th Running of The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb Presented by Gran Turismo. Today was the final qualifying session which sets the run order for Sunday’s race andDallenbach will start from the 17th spot overall. Dallenbach’s first run was a bit off pace as he got comfortable with the changes the team made the night before. His second run, which ultimately became his qualifying time of 4:13.465, was on the same set of old tires but was driven a bit harder. For his final qualifying attempt the team made a tire change to a new set of Yokohama tires and increased the boost level. Unfortunately while waiting in line to take the green flag, the car’s battery suffered a catastrophic failure. The team worked feverously at the start line to get the car restarted in time to make the final run. Dallenbach was able to take the green flag, however, was not able to overcome the battery failure which led to an incomplete run. Paul Dallenbach: “We’ve overcome numerous challenges in the last couple of weeks, starting with an engine failure on the dyno prior to race week and a multitude of electrical issues. Starting from further back in the line could help us to have a dry run if the rain that is predicted comes early in the morning. With the potential for weather all day, I think we’re all going to be in for a surprise with the overall results.” Dallenbach’s appearance this year at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is made possible through his sponsors; Alpine Banks, VP Racing Fuels, Goebel Construction, Yokohama Tires, Haltech, BRM Americas, Force Engineering, Sign Edge, Podium Karting, Dumonde Tech Racing Oils, Under Pressure Performance, and Project Daytona. “We are fortunate to have sponsors who are so generous and into racing, actively participating in our race preparation,” remarks Dallenbach. About the Sierra Car ALPHA - The ALPHA is one of a kind, producing twice its weight in downforce using the big carbon fiber wings. Making up to 600 HP with a Garrett turbocharger. The power to weight ratio rivals the top hypercars in the world. About the Race - The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is the second oldest motor sports race in America - Only the Indianapolis 500 is older - and a longstanding tradition in Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak Region. First competed in 1916, this year marks the 98th running of the "Race to the Clouds." The running of the race will take place on Sunday, June 30th with race related events during the preceding week. The infamous race is run on a 12.42 mile course with 156 turns that begins at 9,390 feet and finish at the 14,110 foot summit of America’s Mountain – where America the Beautiful was penned - Pikes Peak! As the gutsy drivers climb toward the summit, the thin air slows reflexes and saps physical muscle strength. The thin air - two miles above sea level - also robs engines of 30% of their power at the summit. Competitors and vehicles must be in top shape simply to finish...let alone win! The final day of practice kicks off tomorrow, Friday June 24th. In the evening 35,000+ race fans will take over downtown Colorado Springs at the infamous Fan Fest, back after a 2-year hiatus; where they can get up close to all of the race cars and meet the drivers. Race day is Sunday June 26th, with the green flag scheduled to drop at 7:30am MST. Live stream of the event can be found on the Mobil 1 Facebook page.
